A shorter preseason and a longer NFL season? It had been discussed as far back as 2003, when Paul Tagliabue was commissioner. Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked whether a shorter preseason would be good for football. "It hurts a little bit just in evaluating the young players, giving them game experience and opportunity and then seeing them over the long haul of things," Reid said. "Can it be done shorter? It could." Reid said the longer preseason allows for some players to mature and gives the staff a more accurate read on their potential. -- Philadelphia Inquirer
